Teen Weight Loss Disorders
There's no doubt that our great nation has issues with weight loss. This naturally stems from our diet and media. What I mean is our diet is generally poor here in America. It certainly doesn't have to be, but far too many folks choose this route. Then there's the media. It warps the minds of our youth. If it doesn't have them feeling bad about their personal beauty, it has them feeling fat, even when they're not. Yes indeed, teen wieght loss is a concern not to be taken lightly. This brings me to a very important matter. Do you know if your child is on a particular diet, and/or suffers from some type of eating disorder? Many parents don't have the slightest clue.
Sometimes I wonder where it all began. Did issues with severe teen wieght loss and diet pills always exist? Of course not. When I listen to my mother talk about growing up in the 40s, she claims that no one even cared about this stuff. It wasn't an issue, because it wasn't such a focus in the media like it is today. Now you can flip on the television and see random female celebrities looking scrawnier that ever before. What is the deal? I'm not sure if I know where this desire to be SO thin came from. I suppose it could have derived from the catwalks of Manhattan and Milan. Maybe all famous females are mimicking the fashion models these days. Either way, it's definitely having an effect on our youth. Thousands of American teens are being treated for teen wieght loss disorders. And this is not an affliction exclusive to females. Some high school and middle school boys are also struggling with the nasty burden of depression due to their image.
What can be done about excessive teen wieght loss and where do we begin? It all starts with what we portray as beautiful to our children. Obviously if your child does not feel attractive, this is going to be a problem. As far as the media goes, there isn't much dictating it. Folks have to realize that just because it's on television, doesn't mean it's paragon. Tell your children how beautiful they are and help them stay healthy. They need your guidance at that age.
